Why Wrist Pulse Oximeters Are Best For You

By Leticia Jensen

Normally, the body responds to low oxygen level in the blood by increasing the pumping rate so as to meet oxygen demand by the brain, muscles and other organs. This means that the faster than normal heart beat is an indication of inadequate oxygen supply. In order to determine how much oxygen is in blood at any given time, wrist pulse oximeters can be very useful.

In medical institutions, there are oximeters with various designs. They are used in intensive care units, emergency rooms, general care wards and physician check up rooms. With the understanding that this equipment is so necessary even out of hospitals, there are now designs for use out away from medical settings.

The device is designed with multiple sensors and as such is attached to the wrist with the sensor over the finger. It is very small and light in weight with Bluetooth connectivity and is won like a ring. It therefore transmits data to a computer or cell phone as long as it has software to manage data. This means that you will need to buy software along with the device.

With FDA approval, you can be sure of the quality of your device. They size is convenient and very easy to operate. The data can be store for many days as long as you have good data management software. Being light in weight and very small in size, they are not prone to finger fatigue. In fact, they are very ideal for taking measurements when asleep as movement and light can both interfere with it operation.

The readings are given in percentages and the normal level range from 95% to 98%. For many reasons, the percentages can be lower than normal without any course of alarm. However, when the readings are below 90%, there are all reasons to worry. This calls for finding ways to increase oxygen intake so as to facilitate normal cell functioning and of course proper breathing. In order to properly work, the heat beat must be strong enough and there should be no movement as this hinders it working.

Given that this device operates by emitting red and ultraviolet light, other foreign light may hinder its optimal operation. Other than this, movements may also disrupt its accuracy in operation, the reason why it is best used over night. The other area of limitation is as a result of over reliance of pulse rate. While it works best with stronger pulse rate, it does not work properly with weak heat beats.

They are however limited when it comes to alarms. They are primarily used sleep screening and this does not allow for alarms. Although they are still good when it comes to spot checks, the table top, finger held or hand held versions are better with spot checks. They also depend on light and will require that no other strong light is present as this can affect readings. It is also better for more readings to obtain more conclusive results.

With quality guaranteed, long battery life and the ability to use it when wearing nail polish, this is obviously a good choice. They are normally used alongside some computer programs that are equally easy to find making the whole deal good.
