Indoor versions are not as demanding on a physical level because most of these venues do not allow for roughhousing or running. This game can be played in many styles and set ups. It can be play outdoor or indoors. Sometimes there are combat simulations. People might also participating in role play-style games. These may include certain objectives or missions, for example: role-playing, capture the flag, juggernaut, protect the VIP, elimination, borg, stealth or invisibility, base-centric or domination.

Systems used for the process rely on infrared signaling to track firing of lasers. When it comes to indoor play, fog and visible lasers may be used to provide an added effect of firing. This is not involved with the actual signal transmission.

In many systems, infrared signal is transmitted through laser. Fired signals are coded with info like which pack sent out the original signal and other information. This is also a must when it comes to scoring and preventing interference from other devices in the area.

Indoor sessions are played in large spaces that might be kept dark or light. The laser tag packs that are used are integrated with devices in these spaces. Both are connected with computers that help in controlling games, tracking scores and much more. Infrared links and radio equipment may also be used.

Outdoor tag will differ in equipment, sensors used and more. The operators will run this in the same was as they do with inside laser tag or even with paintball sessions. Nowadays, it is common for theme parks and similar facilities to offer this services to encourage more customers. There are also some competitions and tournaments based around the game.
