How To Craft Your Own Fishing Lights

By Annabelle Newton

Fishing lights are an easy project that anyone can make to help to draw small fish toward you. The small fish will become curious about the shiny, bright object in front of them, they will instinctively swim toward it and their curiosity will draw in the much larger species, then they will become entangled so you can catch them.

To make these helpful tools, you will need a few relatively inexpensive items. First of all, you will need a flashlight. The best type to use in this case is LED because they have a tendency to stay cool to the touch. You will also need an airtight plastic container, some rocks, pebbles, sand, fish line and a sealable plastic bag.

Once you gather all the necessary parts for your project, the process is quite quick and easy. First of all, take notice whether or not the container that you pick is too heavy because you do not want it to be difficult to remove from the water when you are finished with it. If the one you have picked does not already have a hole in the handle, you will need to create one so you will be able to put a line through it. When you are creating your hole, be really careful that no other part of the container gets punctured.

After you have successfully made the hole and put the fish line through, test your creation to see whether or not it is likely to leak. It is simple to tell if a container will leak, just watch under the surface of the water and take notice of whether or not you see bubbles rising to the surface. If you see bubbles then, unfortunately your container is leaking and you will need to begin again with another type of container.

Once you determine that the container is stable, place some rocks, sand or pebbles into the bottom of the container. The purpose of this is to weigh down the container so it will not float back up to the surface. Keep in mind, while you are weighing it down, you do not want to make it too heavy to get back out of the water.

Turn your flashlight on next, put it in the plastic sealable bag and then inside your prepared container. The bag is simply for the added protection of the flashlight, should it come in contact with water, it will not be as likely to be destroyed.

Close the cover snugly and make sure the fish line is still secure and lower it under water carefully. Once in the water, try not to disturb it too much because moving it might discourage your fish from coming close enough for you to catch them.

Two fishing lights are used by many fishermen. Using two at one time, within close proximity of each other will help create a larger area for attracting the fish. Remember, the types of creatures you are trying to lure are often very close to the surface so, you will want to keep your container relatively close to the surface as well.
