Important Wellness Benefits Of Running

By Aaron Johnson

There are numerous health benefits to running and I would like to share some of them with you so you understand why running is so important to your health. If you need help getting motivated to start running regularly, hopefully these health benefits will give you that extra push to get going! Below are 3 of the many health benefits of running that you should know.

The first benefit of running which is health related is that it will help reduce any risk you have of getting osteoporosis. Since running has you constantly using your bones, then you are going to obviously keep them in really good working order. And if you regularly use your bones through the act of running, you are also going to limit any risk you have of osteoporosis by keeping them in such good shape.

Most of us know that one of the benefits of running is increasing strength and building lean muscle. It's important to train your muscles in different ways to get the most benefit, so remember to run on uneven surfaces, soft surfaces like sand, and to run up and downhill. Training your muscles to handle these different surfaces and inclines will make your muscles stronger and increase your mobility. If you usually run indoors on a treadmill, use the incline and run outdoors on different surfaces if you are able to.

A health benefit I want to mention is that it will help you fight off any illnesses that might come along. Since exercising helps boost your respiratory system, as well as your cardiovascular system, this will give you the ability to fight off the common cold, plus any viruses or coughs you might experience.

There are far more running benefits than the ones listed in this article, but hopefully these will give you the motivation to get started on a regular running plan or to at least read more about the benefits of running. Running 3-4 times per week can seriously improve your health. Start out running short, flat distances a couple of times a week. You can increase the length and frequency of the runs as you get stronger.
