Marine Corps Combat Fitness Test Events

By John Canfield

Movement to Contact is an 880 yard sprint with camouflage utility trousers, blouse, and boots. The goal here is to finish as fast as you're able to. It's a sprint, which means you should maximize your effort the whole time. Make sure you remember that you receive a 5-minute rest right after this portion, so give it all of your energy and effort.

For the Ammo lift, you will have 2 minutes to complete the greatest number of ammunition can lifts as you possibly can. You need to lift a 30-pound ammunition can above your head from shoulder level. The elbows have to lock out at the top. The beginning placement for the AL is with the ammo can side to side at shoulder height gripped with both hands, hand grip directed away from you. The best raising method is head up, upper body raised and lower back curve retained. Legs and feet remain shoulder-width apart or staggered in a basic-warrior stance position. You are encouraged to use your legs during the lift. This is going to provide you with momentum along with added strength, making the lift considerably easier by distributing the work load across many different muscle groups, in place of just using the arms. You'll receive an additional 5-minute break following this event so make sure you give it all of your energy and effort yet again.

The Maneuver Under Fire is a 300 yard shuttle run containing a range of combat-related tasks, to include crawls, buddy drags/carries, ammunition resupply, grenade toss and agility running. You start out in the prone position at the starting line. You'll get up and jog 25 yards, do a j-hook or half turn around a cone or some other object, then drop down and crawl for 10 yards. During the high crawl, you need to retain contact with the ground with your arms, knees, and upper body. After that you will raise up to a modified high crawl for the next 15 yards. In the modified high crawl, your chest doesn't need to keep contact with the ground. Just hands, legs, and feet need to contact the ground. At the 50 yard line, you will negotiate a few cones positioned in a diagonal design. The turnaround spot is at the 75 yard line.

Here you will take a simulated casualty and conduct a buddy haul to the 65 yard line, whilst negotiating the cones. To attempt the buddy drag, you are going to grasp directly below and through the arms of the casualty and acquire a solid grasp on both forearms. At the 65 yard line, you'll lift up the victim up in to a fireman's carry and transfer them all the way back to the start line.

Once at the start line, you place the casualty on the ground, turn around, get hold of a couple 30-pound ammunition containers and rush them back to the 75 yard line. From the 75 yard line, you drop the ammo cans, and pick up a grenade. You toss the grenade to a radius positioned 15 meters away. Following the grenade toss, you drop down and perform 3 push ups. In the event the grenade lands in the ring, you get 5 seconds deducted from your overall score for the Maneuver Under Fire.. When the grenade lands beyond the ring, you end up with five seconds additional. If your grenade lands in the grenade pit area, but proceeds out, the throw is recognized as a hit. If it lands right out of the radius, but rolls in, it counts as a miss. After the push ups, you pick up the ammo containers and jog to the start/finish line.
