Understanding The Causes Of Back Pain

By James Steele

There are so many ways that an individual can get back pain. This is partly because the back has more than twenty separate vertebrae, which makes it vulnerable to injuries in many different places. Pain can be distributed in many places including your middle, upper, and the lower back areas. To help with your back pain, we have written this article that shows some of the leading causes for back pain and remedies that may be available.

If you sit at a desk or computer, or anywhere, for a long time without moving around, you might be subject to back pain. Basically, it doesn't mean that the chair or seat is uncomfortable. Just the act of sitting is what's at fault. Why is this? When you are seated, there is more pressure on your back. You don't have as much pressure when you are walking around or simply standing. Office workers, draftsmen, and writers - who spend hours on the computer - are all vulnerable to back pain. For this reason, some people and businesses are switching to stand-up style desks. One of the benefits of standing up more is that research has shown that it is actually better for your health than sitting. An alternative approach, if standing up all day to do your work isn't an attractive option, is to get up and move around every 30 minutes or so. This moving about will relieve some of the pressure on your back - you can take a short walk, do some stretching, or just stand up for a few minutes.

Sleeping on a mattress that doesn't properly support your back can contribute to back problems, especially lower back pain. A low-quality mattress, or one that is old, can no longer keep your spine aligned while you sleep, leading to possible back pain. Different mattresses will be "perfect" for different people. Not everyone's choice will be the same. Be that as it may, no one will benefit by sleeping on a bad mattress. If you're experiencing back pain, changing your mattress is something worth trying. Another factor to keep in mind is that using several pillows can put a strain on your back. When your head is raised up too high, it's no longer aligned with your back, and this can cause back pain.

Anyone suffering from back pain that is pregnant should know that the unborn child may actually be causing your lower back discomfort. Aside from this, hormones released during pregnancy can cause additional problems with the vertebrae of the spine. There are many exercises that you can do that can help you relieve back pain that you may be suffering from. Sometimes there are classes available that can offer these particular exercises; your doctor can also help you understand what to do. What you are suffering with right now can actually be alleviated to some degree as long as you do these regular exercises.

When your back hurts, you only want to find a way to feel better, regardless of the cause. You will be more prepared to prevent some of these types of injuries once you are conscious of their origins. In some cases, medical help is needed. For many back problems, however, chiropractors, massage therapists and other alternative practitioners can also be very helpful for reducing back pain.
