Different Types Of Herbal Supplements

The use of different herbal supplements has seen a great boost in recent times due to their huge demand among people from all around the world. Nowadays, people are experimenting with every type of drugs and pills that are readily available over the counter in many pharmacies. Their use is mainly for curing various ailments or in boosting productivity in various fields.

Most of these supplements are however not prescribed by doctors but usually just bought in various chemists and pharmacies. Many of these drugs have proved to be safe and productive while others have been known to have various side effects to the users. Different types of the supplements available today have been discussed as examples in this article.

The first is the ginkgo which is rather popular among those people aiming to increase their mental concentration. This is very common especially among students and scholars as well as the elderly that are over 50 years old. This supplement also aids in the reduction or total prevention of memory loss among the elderly.

The st John wort is a common supplement to be found in the cabinets of many women with depression issues. It has the ability of reducing stress and depression when consumed but may also lead to elevation of different moods in women. Together with these, it is known to increase the estrogen levels of women on the pill and may therefore lead to unplanned pregnancies.

Kava is another form of supplement that is available in many pharmacies everywhere. It is generally used for calming anxiety, restlessness and stress as well as for treating insomnia. A precaution of using the drug is that its excessive consumption may lead to liver problems.

The yohimbe and the Echinacea are two other examples of the supplements in wide use today. The Echinacea is generally used for curing the common cold and reducing its symptoms. The yohimbe however has a variety of different uses. These are namely aiding in weight loss, energy boosts among athletes and curing of various sexual dysfunctions in both women and men.

It is worth noting that use of some of these supplements may lead to rather fatal consequences and side effects to the users. Their use is also greatly discouraged among young mothers as it may greatly affect the health of their unborn or newly born babies. The examples in this article are however just few examples of the herbal supplements in use today.
