A Good Or Bad Doctor Surprise

By Casandra Cotton

Many doctors love what they do, and they work hard to see many patients in a day. It may be hard to find something that could cause a doctor surprise, but it is possible. Some of the things could be good, and others might be bad.

Every patient has a different experience, and the doctor has to know how to treat each situation. Some conditions are benign while others can be more severe. These less worrisome conditions may sometimes progress into something much more severe, and this can serve to be the surprise that no one expects.

There are many different pieces of equipment in the hospital to help the chances of survival of a patient. Respirators are a very important part of intensive unit care. Radiology department imaging has advanced quickly in recent years.

Working the long, hard hours can lead to good surprises. Some patients might experience difficult stretches which in turn stretch the abilities of the physician. This is a good learning experience for him or her, and it can be a rewarding experience in the end.

Each physician can find different situations gratifying. An obstetrician who delivers a baby can find many surprises with the delivery of a new baby girl or boy. Pediatricians might get many different surprises with all of the young children and adolescents that they see each and every day. So, It might not be unusual for them as each child is different.

Places where tough surprises might occur are in the emergency room, trauma bay, or operating room. Of course, doctors always have to be on alert, and emergencies can happen in a hospital room or even at home. They are trained to handle these tough situations.

There are many conditions which might test the knowledge of the physician. Common ones where one would have to think quicker than usual include gunshot wounds, blunt force injuries, or someone who has extreme difficulty in breathing. Others might have a perforated intestine or punctured lung. Each situation has its preferred and most effective way of being treated.

Doctors might even may surprise themselves as they see their extraordinary ability to finish their job. Some days might be more difficult than others, but with more new experiences, it helps them learn to treat people with the same condition. This makes it better for everyone from the patient to fellow workers like nurses and other medical staff.

Many people do not know some of the rigors a physician goes through to get to the point of a practicing physician. Many doctor surprises occur which make it a challenge. New patient problems can be difficult especially when the patient is on the cusp of disaster. There are many good physicians who have tried to make things easier for everyone else who is training to do this position. Protocols, well-written books, and so much more is available so that one can be as prepared as possible.
