Whos Got It Better Than Us: The Top Reasons The U. S. Is Still On Top

By Patrice McCoy

The United States has a been called the land of opportunity nearly since its discovery by explorers. Recently, however, there has been a shift in the perception of the country. Instead of a country with unlimited potential, some would say that the U. S. Has fallen off the pedestal and has become rather pedestrian. To put things into perspective, one has to ask the naysayers whos got it better than us?

Look at the overall financial situation. Regular people working average jobs have the chance to invest in one of the strongest stock markets in the world. It is open and available for every person from any background. A person can invest a little or a lot, but they can participate.

Being able to own a home was once called the American Dream. Today, any individual who has stable employment and some savings can purchase a single family home. To assist all with the financial obligation of owning, many finance and mortgage companies offer financing. While there have been recent housing concerns, the chance to own property is a very real reality.

Let's not forget all of the career opportunities. Within nearly every industry, the chance for promotion is available. Coming in to a position at entry level does not mean the employee is destined to be in that same position indefinitely. Any person showing dedication and hard work can move within the system. No one can legally be discriminated against based on gender, ethnicity, or religious background.

Another fantastic facet is public education. All children are guaranteed a free public education from kindergarten through twelfth grade. Every child gets the exact same opportunity. On top of the education, students from poverty get free or reduced cost breakfasts and lunches. If students are disabled in any manner, they still get the same education and have special services at no cost to their family.

If a child wishes to attend post-secondary education, there are a wide variety of options. Technical schools, universities, local colleges, and state universities have open enrollment for students who desire it. With the high costs associated with additional schooling, there are many grants, loans, and scholarships available to help defray the costs of attendance.

Some individuals do not want to work for anyone else. These people take advantage of the unlimited entrepreneurial opportunities. The economy is driven by the large number of individuals who want to work for themselves. Anyone from a pet groomer to an online business owner can grow a business with some hard work and dedication. In fact, many people telecommute or work online from their homes. The freedom that comes with owning a business is supported and encouraged.

When watching the news, reading magazines, listening to the radio, or surfing the Web, a brief look at the above list should put things back into perspective. No country is perfect. There will always be ups and downs. But in the end, an individual should be able to answer the question of whos got it better than us, with the shout of no one.
