The Role Of The Vision Tester On Eye Treatment

By Kerri Turner

A vision tester is a medical instrument used in determining the particular defects that eye patients suffer from. It comprises of high power lens that easily detect the defect that the patient is suffering from the moment adjustments are made. It contains a trigger attached to a camera that performs the major task.

This instrument is used to detect various defects of the eye ranging from short-sightedness, long-sightedness, astigmatism, uniformity in refraction of light in eyes, corneal reflexes and uniformity of pupils in both eyes. The instrument responds differently to these various defects, hence the exact problem of a patient is determined.

The process of screening for eye defects using the eye tester is rather simplified. As such, it can be done by anyone whether skilled or unskilled. It comprises of a camera which focuses both eyes on a screen where they both are captured once the trigger controlling the camera is pulled the defect then is determined and prescription done accordingly. This process is recommended to be done regularly so as to monitor whether there is improvement or deterioration in eye sight.

The outcomes of eye screening are saved by default in a computer attached to the checker. The information then can be used by both the doctor and the patient to monitor the trend of the eyes of the patient over a period of time. Results can be printed out and the hard copies filed for future reference or just saved in the original machine or even transferred to a different computer for storage. This setting is important since capturing and storage of information concerning eye sight of patients is simplified.

The eye tester has got several merits in its use. The time taken to carry out a single test does not at any point exceed a minute. It mostly takes very few seconds making both the doctor and the patient very comfortable with the test. The results of this test are also a hundred percent trustworthy hence both the doctor and the patient are comfortable in whichever prescriptions follows afterwards.

Some of the salient features of an eye tester include; the two eyes are tested simultaneously making the procedure very short and really efficient since the patient does not have to go through the exercise more than once, total accuracy is guaranteed and is approximated at a minimum of ninety eight percent but at very minimal instances, screening is done at a distance of one meter away, that is, the distance between the camera and the screen, screening takes approximately 0.8 seconds and full range documentation options are contained in the tester.

Despite these advantages, the vision tester however has its negative aspects. Acquiring of the instruments might not be very easy for upcoming optical shops since they are quite costly. This means it only is easily affordable for big and well established institutions with a large capital turnover. Also, it can only test and detect the eye defects but further treatment has to be administered to a patient which means further expenses which might not be comfortably met by all patients.

The vision tester is with no doubt a technology worth appreciating. It has done what could not be done by the initial innovations. It has made eye treatment easier beyond imagination and has gained the confidence of everyone globally.
